Alexandra Kolackova | Jizera Mountains’ Garden

The Jizera Mountains’ rough weather conditions required a different approach than we usually apply in urban gardens. Because it snows there for a significant part of the year, the vegetation period starts a bit later than in the lowlands. On top of that, the garden is located on a steep slope. The topsoil is very shallow: the rock bed starts right under the lawn. It wasn’t easy to design the garden with both the natural, mountainous style, and with all the urban amenities, such as a swimming pool or a whirlpool. Yet, the owners are happy with the result. As a cherry on top, they picked colourful concrete sculptures by Alexandra Kolackova.
